At Lab 39 we aim to increase the personal, social, emotional, and physical well‐being of chronic pain patients. We are developing an innovative hardware & software solution that provides connection, communication, and increased engagement between patients and their clinical teams. Efficiency for follow up visits, refills, and better pain scores is achieved with better capture & knowledge of the pain, sleep, activity levels, and patient reported effectiveness of the current treatment regimens.
Chronic pain is a major multifactorial public health problem affecting quality of life for 1.5B patients annually, and often placing a heavy economic burden on the communities where they live. Additionally, gaps in systematic data and reporting from the patient can limit effective treatments from reaching maximum potential for patients. Many treatments today are late, reactive, and frequently reported ineffective by the patients themselves.
Systematic Data – Fill the Gaps:
§ Care providers lack access to real time reliable data on the pain, wellbeing, and activity level of their patients in between clinic visits.
§ Patients oft can poorly report completely on all aspects of their status in simple questionnaires completed just prior to brief clinical interactions.
§ Patients often report feeling powerless in the overall process of dealing with their condition.
§ Lack of data prevents the available use of advanced machine learning analysis for early diagnosis, and revealing correlations or treatment decisions to outcomes.
Our Lab 39 Solution:
§ Uses Patient‐Intelligent Sensor Band (PISB™) to passively track sleep, heart rate and activity 24/7 with reporting direct to patient’s secure record.
§ Using the data collected via PISB™ in concert with regularly pushed“Patient Check In” queries, our PainControl™ app will:
§ Enable the patient to log and journal the state of their pain more completely AND allow their log to be responsive with advice and assistance; rather than just recorded:
§ Improve patients understanding of their condition and patterns
§ Offer your physician/clinic’s recommended coping tools as pain is reported; or exceeds defined break through points.
§ Augment data model with environmental and personal variation contributors, (Stress, travel, physical demand increase, etc.)
§ Our clinic application will provide you and your clinic a clean summary view of the patient’s data, condition and progress since last visit:
§ Reliable data captured in real time
§ Summary of baseline and breakthrough medications
§ Monitors, alerts, and triggers that have occurred in treatment plan
§ Allow patient specific responses and does changes to be directed between visits if approved by staff or the physician.

Stage 2 Use data to understand the individual patient reporting feedback
§ Aggregate and roll up data for population health level reporting
§ Investigate your trended progress over time of patient specific interventions & treatment plan
Stage 3 Develop chronic pain specific Machine Learning algorithms that streamline reporting, analysis, and interventions in chronic pain planning
§ Develop chronic pain specific sensors plans for acute inpatients (e.g. post surgical); and acute on chronic admissions.
